The History of New Jersey Devils Hockey

The Devils were originally established as the Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1974. The team struggled in its early years, failing to make the playoffs in any of its three seasons. In 1976, the organization moved to Denver, Colorado, but things still didn’t click.

In 1982, the team underwent another relocation, this time to East Rutherford, New Jersey, where they were rebranded as the Devils. The change of scenery marked a turning point for the franchise. The squad found immediate success in their new home, making the playoffs for the first time in 1988 and reaching the Semifinals in four straight seasons.

The 1990s saw the club establish itself as a dominant force in the NHL. Led by a core group of players that included Martin Brodeur, Scott Stevens, and Patrik Elias, the Devils won three Stanley Cups in a span of eight years. This success was built on a foundation of strong defense, reliable goaltending, and a fast-paced, puck-possession-oriented offense.

The Devils Hockey Schedule

The Devils have a long-standing rivalry with two other teams from the Metropolitan Division: the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers. In addition to their rivals, the Devils also face a number of other tough opponents in the Eastern Conference. These include the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Pittsburgh Penguins. Venue Information

Since 2007, the Prudential Center has served as a premier entertainment hub in Newark, New Jersey. Beyond hockey, the venue hosts an array of events, including premier concerts, Disney on Ice, Cirque du Soleil, NCAA tournaments, and NBA preseason matchups. With its central location and excellent facilities, the arena has become a go-to destination for locals and visitors coming to see their favorite performers.

Seating 

With a seating capacity of approximately 16,500 for hockey events, the Prudential Center offers options to suit a multitude of guest preferences. Sections behind the player benches offer an up-close and personal view of the action. The Devils take their place in front of Sections 8 and 9, while the visiting team takes up residence closer to Section 7.

Seats behind the glass wrap around the first tier, with the exception of the bench area and the penalty box in front of Section 19. The Devils shoot twice on the goal spanning Sections 7–20 and 211–230. Tickets on the upper level are typically far more budget-friendly.

If you’re headed to the game with kids in tow, try Sections 116 and 117, which are close to concessions and restrooms. Looking for the party? Try Section 122, in front of the lively Diablos Fan Club, or Section 130, next to the beer stand.

Newark Penn Station is the closest station to the Prudential Center, and fans can use the Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line. NJ Transit operates multiple transportation services: 

• Trains connect Newark with various parts of NJ and NY. 

• Bus lines 11, 28, and 76 have stops nearby.

• The Newark Light Rail system serves the surrounding areas.
