The History of Edmonton Oilers Hockey

Established in 1971 as one of the original World Hockey Association (WHA) franchises, the Oilers quickly became known for their aggressive playing style. Unfortunately, despite their on-ice success, the Oilers faced financial difficulties. 

The WHA constantly fought for legitimacy but struggled to compete with the NHL's established fan base and television deals. In 1979, the WHA and NHL merged, and the Oilers were among the four WHA teams absorbed into the National Hockey League.

Seating

Edmonton shoots twice at the goal on the west side of the building, with Sections 110–112 right behind the net. Similar but more elevated views are usually available for a lower ticket price on the upper levels in Sections 211–213.
